So, i am planning on buying a 250gb samsung 960 evo m.2 nvme ssd, i see the m.2 slots on my motherboard and i saw a review of a guy that the motherboard doesn't "support" nvme thats why it didnt work for him, is that always the case?
First off, "m.2" is simply the form factor. Like 3.5" vs 2.5".
M.2 drives can be had in both/either SATA or PCIe/NVMe.
Secondly, your motherboard does support an NVMe drive.
https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/Z170A-GAMING-M5/Specification
"2 x M.2 Key M Socket support type 2280/2260/2242 storage devices in both PCIE Gen3 x4 & SATA mode"
If that other guy couldn't get it running, that's all on him.
