Depends on what you do. If you run memory intensive apps, they matter. For games mostly they don't.
Running a RAM disk, buffering a huge number of videos, virtualizing several Operating Systems simultaneously, multiple instances of hires video rendering or transcoding, compiling an Operating system and Desktop Environment while doing any of the above....
