I would like to use Miracast to send my PC desktop content to a PTV3000 connected to a TV via HDMI. PTV3000 comes with Miracast and WiDi software.

My Intel Processor (i5-2500k) is not compatible with Intel WiDi.
If I install Miracast on my PC will I be able to view my PC through the TV using a PTV3000?

Solution
i have been working on this for a while now and as far as i can tell the problem is not the cpu and such but rather the wifi card you are using. miracast is included with win 10 and was a beta feature on win 8.1. i do not know if you can simply install it separately on older win version as i have never seen a stand alone installer.

so long as the wifi card and the ptv3000 are both miracast compatible, then the connection should work on win 10 no problem. i have asked MS directly, since they are the ones that made Miracast (which is simply a fancy name for the WiDi standard), what hardware is miracast compatable and they can't give me a list of devices. best i can tell is that WiDi and miracast is part of the new wifi standards and...

you'll need a compaible wifi card to make it work and as i said i have only been told to go for the newest/latest/greatest to hope for compatibility. the one i bought works so i can suggest that one and only guess at others working.

edit: i say cpu is not the problem as i have it working on an old pc with a q6600 which is WELL older than the miracast standard and even older than your cpu.

Guys, thanks for your thoughts and quick responses.

Math Geek, I recently purchased the exact same Netgear adapter that you posted. I will hook up a PTV3000 and see if I can get my TV connected.

It makes me optimistic that Brunostako and Math Geek have gotten Miracasting working on machines with non-compatible processors.

I searched the sight below and filter "NO" for Wireless Display and the i5-2500k is shown in the list.

http://ark.intel.com/search/advanced?s=t&FilterCurrentProducts=false&WiDi=false

I had also read that the processor had to be compatible. I'll try it out and let you know what I find.

remember that miracast is not just for pc's. i use my roku stick to mirror my phone on my tv all the time as it is built into android as well.

you can walk into most any store that sells tv's and connect an android phone to many of the smart tv's on display!! had fun with this over the holidays showing it off to a bunch of awestruck people who had no idea miracast was even a thing. was funny to see 6 tv's all mirroring random phones :)

the idea of wifi direct and miracast is to connect 2 compatible devices directly through the wifi cards with no middle man. hence the name wifi "direct". as i already noted compatibility is part of the wifi standard and nothing else. this is why pc hardware is not important to it working but rather compatible wifi cards are what is important. it is nice that it is built into win 10. LG is also part of the development so almost anything with LG on it will work together as well. my lg phone connects no problem to just about any LG smart tv but is random with other brands working or not.

overal it is still a beta feature all around and until it gets more popular it will be buggy and in need of some tweaks here and there.

Intel WiDi and MS Miracast are not the same. Even when they work almost the same, both have different requirements.

I was able to get my galaxy note to connect to the PTV3000 through the built in WiDi no problem.

I was not able to connect to the PTV3000 on my PC. Since the Intel WiDi installer refuses to run, I try to search for the PTV3000 on the wireless networks using my Netgear A6210, but of course it doesn't show up.

I ran the Intel compatibility checker execution file and the results display incapability of my processor, graphics card, and wireless card (A6210). It specifically lists the A6210 as incompatible.

As you stated the only compatibility that is relevant is between the A6210 and the PTV3000. Also, I am running Windows 7 which may play a role as Brunostako mentioned.

What am I missing and how to I get the A6210 to search for the PTV3000 WiDi?

win 7 should be the problem. i don't know if you can install the WiDi on it but i know that miracast is not able to work on win 7. it takes win 10 to work as it is built into that. win 8.1 had it as a beta so it may work on that but i don't think you can hope it will work on win 7.

this is still a very new technology and buggy as hell anyway on win 10 as it is. i still can't get it to work on my roku stick despite it working on other devices fine on my win 10 pc.

I do have the option to upgrade to Windows 10 for free, but I am on the fence about doing it.

I've read the start menu is less customizable and a few articles say it's not really worth upgrading from 7 to 10, but moving from 8 to 10 is useful.

My main hang up is that I'm not really in the mood to deal with a new interface. Every once in a while, I still have to poke around to find something I've never used in windows 7, but I know exactly where it is in XP. My fear is that 10 will try to "hide" things or make somethings "more accessible" and life spirals into waste mouse clicks/google searches.

I'm done crying about it. Can you give my your 2 cents on Windows 10? I'll take any encouragement to change over, but I'm not really enthralled by it.

believe me i fully understand hating a new version with all the senseless moving of things around for no reason. makes it a real pain in the **** to upgrade.

i did manage a fairly painless upgrade myself with the combined use of classic shell http://www.classicshell.net/ which makes the start menu look like what we are used to and actually want. opening the start menu gives the classic look while a simple click at the top of the menu returns it to the new look and the live tiles. closing it automatically goes back to the classic look :) pretty simple really.

i also used the good ol god mode we have seen the last few versions to keep me from having to dig around for settings i wanted to change. http://www.cnet.com/how-to/activate-godmode-in-windows-10/

these 2 changes made it a lot easier to handle win 10 and i find myself actually liking parts of it. i actually am an insider and still dual boot win 7 with win 10 until i am fully comfortable with it but i find myself using the win 10 install a little more as time passes and i figure by summer i will probably be on it full time with win 7 hanging in there for emergency sake. i have had trouble doing some pretty basic things in win 10 and it has pissed me off a few times but overall i'm warming up to it.

i am still not very happy with the privacy issues of win 10 but in time the hackers out there will patch it so all that mess is blocked. will take them time but i figure a few months should see them releasing some kind of blocking tool for the data collection.

Hello,

I want to use Miracast with my desktop Windows 10 PC. I have a GTX 970, a Core i5 6500, and I use a Netgear A6210 for my wireless connection.
The problem seems to come from the adapter, it won't work with my desktop PC (cmd: netsh wlan show drivers -> Wireless Display Supported: No (Graphics Driver: Yes, Wi-Fi Driver: No).
I tried also with my laptop wich usually works to use Miracast, but when I plug the adapter, I have the same problem.

I use the lastest driver (5.1.22.0 ; Software Version 1.0.0.35) and I also tried the Mediatek and a generic driver.

It seems that you can use Miracast with your A6210 on Windows 10. Please, can you help me ?

Sincerely.

what are you trying to connect to? i can get my phone and tablets to connect to the pc but not my smart TV or Roku sticks. still not working on those for me. kind of useless as i wanted to mirror my pc to my TV and make it easy to stream certain content to my TV. but that never worked. connecting my phone otr tablet let's me mirror those on my pc monitor which is pretty useless overall as what i can get on my phone i can get on my pc as well.

I want to use my laptop (which is compatible with Miracast) as a second screen when I stream on Twitch. But anyway, my desktop PC says that my hardware isn't compatible with this function, so I can't search my devices from this computer (from Project on his PC, Connect, extend display panel...). What's the driver that you're using? Did you manage to install Netgear genie properly?

my conclusion lately has been that win 10 is just not very compatible with miracast as it was a year ago.

i have netgear genie installed and the latest AMD drivers for my video card. overall i can connect devices to win 10 that mirror to my pc screen but can't get my pc to mirror to anything else. can't get it working for myself, so doubt i can get it working for you either.

i am a windows insider and every build past the latest public one has miracast broken completely. so it is likely in april when the new update comes out, it won't work for anyone at all 🙁

if you're gaming on steam, i believe that has a built in feature to mirror the screen to other devices. might be worth looking into. i have never used it but i'm pretty sure i read about being able to stream your games to other devices. i'd assume you can do it as a second monitor as well as the primary one.

wish i could be more help but miracast on win 10 seems like something MS is not interested in getting working.

OK, thank you for your help, I'll try to use my laptop a a second screen with Steam. It's too bad that MS doesn't improve this function... I haven't a really great desk and I haven't enough money to buy a second monitor anyway. I gonna try something else to make it work.

Can you try to tap "netsh wlan show drivers" in cmd, and paste here the result? Because it's strange that you can mirror some of your devices on your desktop computer, and not me. Also, what is the version of the driver that you're using for your adapter?

It's very nice you help me, because I've been searching for two weeks :)

i have not looked for a newer driver and this one is rather old. possible newer one has fixed some stuff but i believe it is more MS's fault than the driver. they just seem to be abandoning the feature. newest version of android does not even have the option readily available like older versions did. it's still there but hard to get to. i had to add it to my settings menu manually as it was just not there on my new LG phone. other brands have it but it's buried deep.

notice last line says wireless display not supported which is odd since it will connect some things but not others. real buggy and frustrating as miracast works great anywhere else with anything else but my pc.

Ok thank you. I'll abandon too :) Yes I've seen that on my Huawei P8, it uses another technology call MirrorShare, and to use Miracast, I had to install a shortcut from the PlayStore.

I'll try with Steam now.

Bye :)
