Does my Graphics Card need a Power Supply?

I recently bought a RADEON 6450 for my Dell 620 Inspiron. After trying everything the manual my PC had to say and the one that AMD sent out specifically for this card I am still having trouble. The manual suggest that there could be a place where I need to insert a 6 Pin power cord but where on the card is that? (In previous steps I've uninstalled disabled the old card and changed my Bios for old video card that is built in the CPU and still no signal or display on the monitor. Could this be my solution?)

Well you should just be able to do a drop in replacement and that card will not need a 4 pin or 6 pin cable. it will get all the power it needs from the actual slot. As far as the power supply is concerned vender specific power supplies tend to be bare minimal to run the system to spec so adding any cards or drives could cause the system to be unstable or not post at all. what is the current power supply rating in watts?>

you don't need auxiliary power. it draws less than the 75watts provided by the pci-e slot. like 54watts or something. I think that information is there to cover a wide array of cards.......... some people don't think to look if their cards need that extra connection or not. this covers that.

If it has intergrated video go into the bio's and select out put video to pci slot instead of intergrated.

Make sure you have your Graphics card seated properly and make sure the fans are spinning to ensure that the card is receiving enough power. If that still doesn't solve your problem then make sure you have your monitor plugged into your graphics card and make sure your monitor is on the correct input setting. When you turn on your computer do you see the bios splash screen or is there absolutely nothing on the screen?

you selected me as best answer.......... if it's not fixed you shouldn't have............. after you installed the card, move the monitor cable to the card and boot. then install the drivers for it or go to windows update for the driver......... and anything else that might be there.

Yes, the fans run and the Led power button in the front receives power. When I turn it on you hear the startup but no beeps and just her rhmmmm then you just hear the fans running..

I don't know how to really do that...I go into Bios and then Advanced and there is just CPU and System Configuration and Power Management then a fourth option

its simple just choose your intergrated graphics in your bios after you have set your new card. boot up with the intergrated then install the driver for you new card restart and change the bios back
