Solution
Your motherboard does not have a display port. You can connect your monitor via VGA, DVI or HDMI cable, and it is almost a certain thing that your monitor allows at least one of these conenction types, if not more. Of course, that is only if you plan on using integrated graphics and do not have a dedicated discrete graphics card (which are usually equipped with at least 1 display port these days). What is the rest of your build and what are you planning to use it for?

No Display port on the board.
You would need a GPU that has a Dispaly port connection.

heres my whole build - PCPartPicker part list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Bj64vK

and i think the 980 has a display port, how would i connect that to my monitor?

and primary use is gaming and editing

980 does have displayport. You would connect it just like you would HDMI but the displayport connections have a tab on them so when you put them on you would have to push on that tab to release it.

so would i have to like wire it from the monitor, back behind the case, through the back, into the gpu and plug it in there?

WAIT NO NOW I GET IT!! the gpu sticks out the back like the motherboard does! ohhh sorry im a noob.. THANKS ALL SO MUCH GUYS! i understand :)
