Does my motherboard need a Bios update?

So I currently have a spare motherboard that is the
MSI B150M Pro-Vd
I had a i3 6100 running on it but I sold that and just kept the motherboard but now I am trying to put a Celeron 7th gen. Will I need a bios update? Or should I be fine with a update of the i3 6100

Solution
It will most likely need a BIOS update. 6 gen for 100 series, 7th gen for 200 series. 7th gen will work with 100 series but you had to update the motherboard with a 6th gen cpu. I got a $25 b150 board and a $64 pentium g4560 (half priced i3 6100 essentially) and had to take it to a shop to flash the bios with a 6th gen and this was right after the G4560 was released.

Looks like you need at least the 1.A version from October 2016. When did you retire the board?
Apparently the motherboard has been in storage for some time. Plus the fact that you retired the motherboard in the first place is a good idea to update the BIOS. And now you want to use it on a new processor. That is another good reason to update the BIOS.

The fact that you are asking about updating the BIOS means it is on your mind as well.

The last update was around November of 2017 i am not 100% sure what it was but it was around that time. And the thing is that I don’t have an other cpu that will work with it for sure to boot it up. If so what recommendations would you give for that motherboard for just a budget desktop that won’t have much load that is compatible with no requirement of a bios update?

The bios will not have been updated automatically, if you bought it before Oct 2016 and retired it in 2017 and you have never flashed the bios it most likely won't run a 7th gen. Do you have any friends that might have a cpu to flash with?

$40 G3900 is the smallest celeron, $51 G4400 is the smallest pentium both 2 core 2 threads from 6th gen and work in 100 series no problem.

If the bios was updated the $58 G4560 2 core 4 threads would be the hands down budget favorite (using newegg prices) The shop I took my b150 to at the time charged $20 to flash.

$40 G3900 2.8 GHz 2 MB cache Celeron
$51 G4400 3.3 GHz 3 MB cache Pentium

Both are 2 core 2 threads from 6th gen and work in 100 series no problem. The Pentium is slightly better. Use 2133 DDR4
