my motherboard uses ddr4 ram. im currently have 8gb of ram and the 4gb ram is also ddr4 (i check it before that pc died)

Your motherboad only support dual memory architecture, rather than flex mode. Therefore, to salvage 4 gb ram, you can only run the 2x 2GB set in dual-channel mode.
