Does overclocking reduce the lifespan of a GPU?

I have a R9 270x.
I heard it can be overclocked to be like 280x, but..
Does overclocking reduce the lifespan of a GPU? Is it worth overclocking a GPU?

Yes and no..

Yes if you do it incorrectly like, expecting your Gpu to perform the same as a another gpu with higher stream processors and 2 tiers above it.

No if you use safe methods like, having adequate cooling for the Gpu and knowing its limits.
