Guys i plan to upgrade my cpu and mobo..will i see a significant difference in performance between i5 4690 and i5 4690k when i overclock the later? I know they cost almost the same..but the problem is z97 mobo costs alot more than h97 plus i need to buy a cpu cooler...

Solution
Depends on the application. For instance : Planetside 2 is so CPU heavy game that stock vs overclock can bring even 20fps extra.

Its up to you and your needs. Overclocking is mostly for enthusiasts that wansts most of their hardware.

The only difference between the 4690 and 4690k is with the "K" version the multiplier is unlocked and can therefore be overclocked. Overclocking will always provide extra performance but it will also depend on other components in your system. The z97 chipset motherboards are more expensive but worth it. Cooler wise i recommend the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

Best of Luck!

I don't seem the need to and I wouldn't want to risk doing it wrong and having something break. As long as you're getting hopefully 60fps or more on ultra settings then I don't seem the need to as personally im happy with that :)

As already said, it's mainly for enthusiasts who want the most out of their hardware

i own a gtx 980 so i mainly play at 1440p un high settings..how much difference will it make at that reso

even if i do not overclock it...a 4690 should still be better than 8350 hopefully?? cuz that is another option i have

The fx-8350 is very good chip for the money but core for core the i5 4690k is leaps ahead in terms of day to day tasks and gaming. Good luck with your build!
