Question Does PCI-E 4.0 affect GPU performance?

There's no GPU that can use the full bandwidth of PCIe 3.0 x16 so there is no advantage to using PCIe 4. I also doubt even in the next few generations to come that GPUs will reach the full bandwidth of PCIe3.

Right now the only application that can use the full potential of PCie4 is SSDs, and that's really only in applications where huge sequential read/writes occur

What do you mean?

If you mean in reference to future proof, all I'm saying is it will probably be a couple more generations of GPU hardware before the bandwidth limitations of PCIe3 is finally reached and PCIe4 starts to come into play.

If you have the cash to spend then go ahead and get a X570 board, if you are on a budget then a B450 will more then likely not limit any performance for the lifespan of the computer.

I agree that there is no GPU-specific benefit to PCIe 4.0 right now, but the next generation of cards from both Nvidia and AMD should support PCIe 4.0. I have read an interesting article here about performance scaling over different PCIe bandwidths. It is not unreasonable to assume that while buying an X570 motherboard might not do much for you today, in the not too distant future there will be benefits to already running a PCIe 4.0 motherboard. If you are buying a motherboard now anyway, now is the time to buy the most future-proof one.

Better to spend a little extra now than to regret cheaping out later.
