Does RAM Latency Matter?

Hey, I was looking for some RAM at some local stores, and there was G. SKILL RIPJAW X series ram that was 2x8GB, 2400Mhz, and I also found some Kingston HyperX RAM that was also 2x8GB and 2400Mhz. The kingston ram was half the price. SO after some reaserch, I discovered that the price difference was due to the RAM latency. Kingston HyperX: CAS 11. Corsair G.SKill: CAS 9. Do these numbers about the latency really matter for gaming and video editing?

Yes latency matters. The lower the latency the faster the ram is.

Yep, and by the way Corsair and GSkill are two separate companies, the CL or CAS is how long it takes for the DRAM basically to complete an action so the lower the better

I want to know if the lower latency is worth it considering:

1- The lower latency RAM is double the price
2- Does lower latency make a noticeable difference in gaming and video editing?

What sets are you looking at, GSkill generally has good prices on 2400/9 sticks, Corsair and Kingston ten to run a bit higher - have you looked at the GSkill Tridents

All else being equal, lower latency is nice. However, latency is easily masked by proper memory controller design. Higher transfer rates and higher capacity are much more important.
