Does refresh rate apply to flat panels?

Ive been told that refresh rate has no bearing on flat panel displays. That means that refresh rates ONLY apply to CRTs?
Just leave the default 60Hz in the control panel for display properties in XP?

that is not true. For example, in the Samsung SyncMaster 710N, you can set the refresh rate at 60Hz or 75Hz. It all depends on what the maximum refresh rate of the particular LCD you have.

But does changing the refresh rate do anything for an LCD? Doesn't seem like it does.

The refresh rate on an LCD does matter, same as a CRT. The difference is that in an LCD, the whole screen refreshes at the same time, whereas a CRT refreshes each pixel in sequence. Thus, on a CRT there are 3 refresh rates used: vertical, horizontal, and for the whole screen. Usually, all that matters to the user is the rate on the whole screen, typically set at 60-75Hz.

Thanks. I tried chaning the refresh on my LCD, and I don't notice a difference like I do on the CRT. Granted, I didn't try any games, just surfed the web, which it is mainly for.
