Does RYZEN 5 1600 on Gigabyte AB350M-D3H need a GPU just to see a BIOS screen?

Hi All,

I just built a RYZEN rig with the following part:
CPU: RYZEN 5 1600
PSU: EVGA N1 650W
MB: Gigabyte AB350M-D3H
RAM:Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB (in the compatible list of MB)
Storage: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 128GB and Toshiba 1TB 7200 RPM
GPU: NONE.

I connected it to Dell U2415 via HDMI port (and tried Display Port as well) from the motherboard's port.
When I turned on, only hear 1 short beep and the screen is still blank.
What I have been tried so far is:
1. Reset the CMOS by connecting the CLR_CMOS jumper with my screwdriver and pull and put the CMOS battery as well.
2. Pull one of the RAM and use 1 RAM only in the DDR4_1 slot to check if either one of the RAM is faulty.

But none of them seemed work. I read my stories in the forum that mentioned that GPU is needed.
But, do I really need a GPU JUST to see a BIOS screen only?
I thought a BIOS screen can be seen although no CPU installed in the MB.

Thank's,
-erwin

Yes. 100% correct.

There MUST be a graphics card or chip. They USED to be part of motherboards, but now they are on AMD APU's, or most Intel CPU's, but not RYZEN CPU's (because it adds to the cost so why bother? Intel does it because they don't sell graphics cards.).

You will need to buy a graphics card. If a non-gamer then look at the cheapest card that does the job. I suspect you ARE a gamer though, so if you want advice make a post.

*You may be able to buy or borrow a cheap graphics card for now. Pretty much anything that has an output your monitor...

Solution
I never realized that I need a GPU just to see a BIOS screen for RYZEN :) Anyway, my GTX 1070 is on the way and coming next week. Will update again once I got my GPU installed.
Thank you for all the replies.

@photonboy, yes I am a casual gamer :)

This is not entirely correct. AMD currently sells APU's and even Athlon X4 CPU's with AM4 sockets as well. For example A10-9700 etc.

So, if you want an APU on your AM4 motherboard and can't wait for Ryzen based APU's to be released, you can buy such an existing Bristol Ridge APU and start using the display output ports of your motherboard.

All you need to do is to look up the Supported CPU list for yoru motherboard - for example for my AX370 Gaming 5 the list is here and it contains 7 supported APU's and 1 Athlon X4 CPU - all on AM4 socket in addition to Ryzen. http://www.gigabyte.com.tr/products/page/mb/ga-ax370-gaming_5#support-cpu

Practically ? You are right. But as far as the technicality goes - this is the reason those output ports are there.

I did not seen any of those APU's either and they don't make sense to purchase in anyway - waiting for Ryzen APU's is the best way.

Heck, even only some of the Ryzen CPU's are available at any moment, they come and they go. AM4 motherboards ? They come and go too. It took me 6 weeks to secure the motherboard and CPU from the same retailer.
