Hi, I purchased 990pro with heatsink and doesnt fit!

I need to remove the heatsink but it haves a wuaranty seal sticker and if I remove it... the warranty will be lost.

Can it work perfectly without heatsink? Will it lost life or speed?

I'm using a Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P with i7 6700 + cryorig H7 and a 1060 6gb

Use PCIE M.2 adapter and install it into second PCIE x16 slot.
You won't have to remove the heatsink then.

Thank you. My motherboard only haves one pci express slot runing at 16x and its already taken.

That is not a bad idea, but please, can someone tell me the answer to my question?

You install M.2 PCIE adapter into second PCIE x16 slot (4x mode slot).

Samsung 990 pro is PCIE 4.0 M.2 drive. It requires heatsink for proper operation.
Without heatsink it will overheat.

You mean there will no diffrence between using this adapter and using the motherboard m2 slot? Even being the pciexpress restricted to 4x?

Will it work perfectly any chinese random adapter?

Like these?

Or will be any apreciable difference between brands? Do I need to search for a specific thing?

Please tell me anything that I need to know... I purchased this unit because someone on this forum told me that it will be compatible with my motherboard and now I got this problem.

It's the first m2 unit I will use to I need some help

Thanks

I am somewhat surprised it will not fit what blocks it the cpu cooler ?

If you go back a year toms tested this device without a heatsink and said it did not thermal throttle for what ever that is worth. I don't think the heatsink versions were out when they tested it.

I am not sure who said it would be "compatibile" with your motherboard. The key thing they should have seen is your mother board only uses PCIE 3 and a 990pro is PCIE4 and can actually use the extra speed. Your maximum speed will be 1/2 although that seldom matters in real world use.

Since you can't actually hit the peak rate it will likely also not run as hot.

There might be other after market coolers that you can get. Most the built in heat sinks on newer motherboards are fairly thin metal and they fit under even large GPUs.

It would work with those adapters also.
But I'd suggest getting adapter with bracket included (like photo in post #2).
It will be more secure.

Hi

The post image from post 2 shows a 2 lane adapter, that means pci express 1x and not 4x if I'm not wrong

Can't find any apdater with brackets and the four lanes like the ones I showed.

Can you clarify this to me please?

No. That is x4 adapter (not x1 or x2).

x1 adapter would look like this. It has less contacts and pcb is shorter.

thank you, the issue is that I need it for tomorrow, not for 10-20 days. I'm trying to find one with prime or in second hand market.

I found this:

what do you think? is perfect?

PD: it tells it's pci expess 4.0, but my motherboard is 3.0 I think. Should it work?

PD 2: Will this overheat the GTX 1060? it is just below the fans of the graphics card, with one centimeters of space, stopping fresh air from getting inside card, instead of that, the heat of this adapter will come to the card I think. Not sure if this is bad or it is something that will not decrease graphichs card health

Try it. Monitor temps.
m.2 devices get hot only under sustained activity like long virus scans. If it gets hot. it will slow down a bit to protect itself. Normal random axtivity will not br impacted.
