I have a Dell XPS051. I just upgraded the memory to 4- 1Gb sticks. It only recognizes 2G. Whats up with that?

Well trying google with the info you provided your system pre dates 1993 am I wrong if not your using a 32 bit os so the added mem will not show up or be used in the system even tho its there like with win xp my older system had 4 gigs of ram 1x4 but it only showed 3.25 its a windows thing now if I installed win 7 it would shot all 4 gigs even tho win xp is 32 and 64 bit ..hope this helps

i DID research the XPS051 for memory upgrade. It said it would support up to 8GB.. I assumed that since there where 4 slots.. I could put in 4- 1GB sticks. I just recently replace the HD (since the original had died) and also upgraded to Win 8. When I installed one of the sticks.. I got NO Video and constant beeps.

Its a Dell XPS 400/ Dimension 9150

I went out on Dell's website and ran diagnotics.. everything passed.
