Does single channel make a difference in games?

I have a Toshiba Qosmio x775-Q7272, and since I'm looking at getting an SSD for it, why not maybe new ram? It currently has 6gb. Obviously, not dual channel. I'm 99% sure it's 1x4gb+1x2gb. (Is there a way I could check that without opening it..?) And I was wondering if I stuck 2x4gbs in there if it would make a difference? (The max RAM i've ever used is 4.8 gigs in BF3 so capacity isn't really a factor) Thanks!
