[SOLVED] Does sleeping and hibernating computer help computer/laptop last longer?

Aside from prolonging battery life, what exactly is the purpose of putting a computer to sleep and/or hibernating it? Does it prolong the life of a computer/laptop?

I download large files on my laptop and have it set to do nothing when I close the lid, but sometimes the download gets interrupted/cancelled so wondering if I need to to turn off sleep mode...which I thought I did in windows 10 but maybe not.

Back when we didn't have ssds, it was made to boot faster. Now it's more of a relic. There is no notable relation to life.
