Does the 212 evo cooler back-bracket need a cut in the case to be installed?

Hi, i bought a 212 evo cooler for my z170-a motherboard and i wanted to install everything in my case, but it doesnt have a cut out for the backet that you install in the back of the motherboard,

Will it make short-circuit if it touches with the back of the case?

Is it possible to use electrical tape to prevent it from damaging the motherboard if it touches the case? or it needs that space that the cut out has so it doesnt bend the motherboard?

Thanks.

Nope. I've actually done it before. it's fine if you do it right. You're not putting the tape on the CPU socket...it goes on the chassis or MoBo tray.

The heat path is WAY too long traveling through the socket, motherboard...
CPU heatsink mounting bracket should not touch anything on the motherboard that carries electrical current. And Chassis is ground, so it should also have no current. So it should not matter.

A layer of insulating tape or other non-conductive material would not hurt as a precaution.

Its not going to touch the case, because the standoffs create enough clearance. Electrical tape will melt under the high temps of the socket and will make a mess all over the board, so I recommend not doing that.

The heat path is WAY too long traveling through the socket, motherboard, heatsink mounting bracket and then to the tape mounted on the chassis side panel. It will also get some cooling from the ambient air outside the panel.
