Does the ASRock x79 Extreme 4 motherboard support Samsung 850 EVO SSD as boot drive?

tl;dr does x79 support Samsung 850 EVO SSD as boot drive?

I read around that the older x79 platform does not support NVMe SSD's but PCPartpicker gave no errors when I paired the Intel 750 Series PCIE SSD with this motherboard. Checked to see that it is indeed NVMe. Now I'm not buying that specific SSD, i'm looking at the Samsung 850 EVO SSD and I'm just wondering if anyone knows for sure that x79 supports this. It says 3D V-NAND and I got no idea what that means. Wouldn't want to waste $115
