Does the ASUS G501JW FHD laptop support NVMe drives?

Solution
That M2 is AHCI and not NVME. and the SSD M2 that comes with it is AHCI as well .

Intel HM87 express chipset does not support NVME M2 SSD , only AHCI.

If you put NVME SSD in that M2 it will not boot.

I would say that is then dependent on the target market.
For example, here in South Africa you pay lots of money for what is a mid range device when it comes with SSD. Here that is still an "optional feature" instead of a "standard feature".
That system does have the support though, so you could install one.
