Hi I'm extremely new to pc"a and will be buying my first gaming pc January tenth and will be purchasing the Maximus Formula VI as my MOBO because from watching youtube videos it seems you can "one click" overclock.
Is this true and could someone please explain it to me?

Solution

Yess ir! Auto-Tune does come with stages. Please try not to go extreme at first. Check on lower OC's and be sure you keep your CPU under 70C on a load.
Ahh it's sort of the truth, it will overclock your CPU. Keep in mind you will need adequate CPU cooling for this type of operations, even thou it pretty much depends on the stage of overclocking as well as the CPU.

Could you please explain " sort of true" and thank you for such a quick response :)
This is what I'll be purchasing and I believe I bought enough fans " don't think it can even have more fans lol"
Will this keep it cool?

Sort of truth simply means I don't know the kind of OC your going for. Even though I don't recommend "Auto-Tunes" at all. I prefer suggesting you to watch tutorials on how to overclock and do everything manually. I've run though a high amount of issues in the past when it comes down to auto tuning your CPU.

When I clicked on that link, it did not show me parts you selected at all.

I saw the formula VI has it's bios and can can oc that way ( as I'm new would prefer trying that way first )
I7 4770K after mentioned MOBO, corsairs dominator platinum 1866mhz ram, gtx 780 Ti, corsairs 860i psu, think that's all the "main parts"?

If it fits on your case, please try to get one of these:

Kraken X60 (my current):

H100i(too noisy but it works lol):

NH-D14(Best in air)

Fractal design arc XL atx mid tower case and went with the noctua as you had suggested. Then will also buy corsair air series two pack of 120 fans and one corsairs 140 fan which for my case is as many fans as possible. It also comes with fans of it's own.
So with this cooling would it be possible to one click oc?

Solution
Thank you SO much for such quick replies and yea I watched videos and as I stated am a total noob lol with me having to literally buy everything from a desk/chair to pc/monitor and it coming in at $3600+ I'll absolutely take it slow and watch more videos lol wasn't thinking extreme just perhaps 4.2 for CPU which reading here seems pretty low for the i7 4770k. But like you said in increments.
Again thank you :)

Not a problem, we all start at a point! Best of lucks on your new PC.

The i7-4770K can achieve 4.2GHz usually without changing the Voltage or otherwise messing with the power management. Once you change the Voltage the temperature can go up significantly requiring better cooling (or more noise with same cooler).

Since real-world gaming is barely affected by the difference between 4.2GHz and 4.5GHz I advise 4.2GHz.

Here's the AI Suite 3 manual for tuning: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/MAXIMUS-VI-EXTREME/DE138_ROG_AI_Suite3.pdf

My quick advice:
1. Flash BIOS to latest, using USB BIOS FLASHBACK prior to installing Windows
2. Verify the DDR3 memory using memtest www.memtest.org (at least one full pass)

3. Install Windows
4. Install motherboard MAIN CHIPSET driver, other drivers and software

5. TUNE CPU in BIOS or via the AI Suite 3 software so all cores are 4.2GHz ( x42 multiplier of 100MHz base clock)
6. CONFIRM that the memory is also proper (i.e. 2133MHz, not 1600MHz if you have 2133MHz memory)

7. Tweak the FAN PROFILE for every fan attached to the motherboard
8. Rerun Memtest
9. Run Prime95

That's the basics for tweaking and testing the CPU and Memory though read your manual fairly well.

All that seems very complicated.. Does the software you mentioned come with the MOBO? I will be purchasing on January tenth and buying all parts thru pcpartpicker and then having it built for me.
I was planning on over clocking to the minimal 4.2 ghz as that's what I've read on these forums and seen on youtube.
Regarding youtube and why I like this MOBO is the video I saw shows the guy simply clicking "over clock" and the board doing it for him. Then it can run tests to make sure card is stable. Is this video incorrect?
Also I'll be buying the corsairs dominator platinum 1866mhz ram if that's relevant..

One-click:
I have an Asus board (Sabertooth Z77) however the BIOS in the Hero is completely different as is the Windows-based software.

I clicked something in my BIOS that simply rebooted my PC and did an overclock of my CPU and optimized my RAM so yes there's likely a "one-click" method you'd be happy with.

I have an i7-3770K and 2133MHz memory. It was initially set to 3.9GHz (Turbo) for the CPU and 1600MHz for the RAM.

The one-click method made it 4.1GHz and 2133MHz. So my CPU was slightly overclocked and my RAM at its max.

(I then manually changed the 4.1GHz to 4.2GHz which reset my RAM to 1600MHz so I had to fool around with that.)

Software:
The software I mentioned is downloaded from the Asus motherboard site for that exact motherboard. You're probably better off just doing it in the BIOS though. (boot, DEL to BIOS, click OVERCLOCK (or whatever it's called), reboots, DEL to BIOS, verify).

Thanks now that seems like the youtube video I saw. Also is it relitivly easy to upgrade a bios? Sorry for all the questions just I'll be a total noob when I get my pc.
So between here and youtube been trying to find out as much as possible.
