So im getting a gtx 970 and i would like to know if the gtx 970 can run a 4k monitor. Yes i know performance wont be the best buy i would still like to know. Please only give me reccommendations if the asus strix 970 cannot run a 4k monitor. Please no random "just get the gigabyte one". Thanks for your time.

Solution
It can run a 4K monitor, it just can't play games very well. But then again, no single GPU card can do that either.

That is the $100,000 question. You really need to pay attention to that and do your research. The GTX 970 can do 60 Hz, but the monitor may not support it. Many 4K monitors only do 30 Hz x 2 interlaced. You also need to use the proper version of Displayport.

If you scroll to the bottom it says "HDMI is 2.0 compatible meaning that compatible monitors and tellys can do UHD at 60 Hz, DP is 1.2 but has support for eDP 1.4." So im assuming they mean 4k when they say UHD. Although I am not entirely sure if they are correct.

HDMI 2.0 and DP 1.2 both support 4k @ 60hz, but there are two catches:

1. The TV and Monitor itself HAVE to support 60Hz rate.
2. Whether you'll get 60 fps at that resolution is also a totally different story, 4k resolution is pretty heavy, so far no single GPU can handle that kind of resolution.
