[SOLVED] Does the harddrive you install you OS on affect speed on other drives?

Hello,

I've just bought a new gaming computer with the following storage:

Seagate Firecuda 1TB 2,5'' SSHD
(Don't really understand the specs on this one, the site I bought the component from states that it has 600 MB/s data transfer rate (external), and 140 MB/s (Internal))

Is internal the write speed and external the read speed?

Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB SSD
(Read/write: 3500/3300MB/s)

So my conundrum here is on which storage I Should install my OS on. I don't mind how long the computer takes to boot up, I really just want to reduce the load time on games I'm playing.
Will the disk I install my OS on affect the load speed of games on a better storage unit?

Been a long time since I've set up a new pc, and I'm not up to date with 'new' technology like SSHD and M.2 disks. Hope someone can shed some light on this.

First. the external speed is referring to the speed of the small SSD attached to the HDD, the internal speed is the speed of the spinning platters. a SSHD is two devices glued together hence the two speeds. HDD with a small SSD attached.

Second. no. if you install the OS to a HDD and the games to an SSD the games will load as fast as the SSD will allow them, windows however will only be as fast as the slow HDD will allow, in my example of course.

the m.2 drive will be the fastest and if its large enough, 1TB is plenty, you can have your cake and eat it too. windows will benefit from the M.2 drive and the games will load fast as well if both are installed to the drive. I would relegate slower (HDD) storage for the movie...

to really get the gist of the speed m.2 provides a pair of drives copying large files will do the trick. if you mix drives operations will be slowed to the slowest device in the chain. copying to HDD will be no faster than a HDD can write. copying from a HDD will be no faster than the HDD can read. two NVME m.2 ssd back and forth is when they really shine and the high numbers will be achieved.
