Does the i7 work on the P55 motherboards?

If i wanted an I7 processor would i have to go for an X58 motherboard or do they work on the P55 motherboards too?

Yes, there are I7's for the P55/1156 motherboard...

It depends on which i7 you are looking at. Some only work on x58. Others only work on P55.

The i7 9xx CPUs only work on the x58, socket 1366 motherboards.

The i7 8xx CPUs only work on the P55, socket 1156 motherboards.
