Does the length of a SATA cable effect performance of the hard drive ?

I'm looking to have my hard drive running in another room seperate to my computer which is like 1.5 metres away just to keep my PC quiet.

Will using a 1 or 2 metre cable degrade performance ?

My place of work did some experimenting on this aspect. Anything up to a meter is okay, and a little after that shows signs of degradation. You could push it to 2 meters, but I wouldn't recommend it. Keep it at 1 meter or below.
