so, I'm building a PC and my final part of it will be arriving March 23, the only thing I'm at a loss for is my OS, The OS I have in my possession right now is a DVD version of Windows 10, though I can download windows from a DVD I don't have an optical drive as I wouldn't need one for anything but the OS installation, on the bright side though, the DVD version of windows also came with an installation key, I don't have any other windows computers in my household, though I do have friends that do, I know that you can use the windows media creation tool to create a copy of windows and put it on a usb stick for installation into a newly built (or outdated) computer, I would like to do this but am worried that the media creation tool will delete the OS from their computer and move it onto the USB stick, though from the name "media creation tool" it probably creates another version of windows 10, but since the friends that I would create the version of windows off of both have packed computers with a lot of projects saved and games to be played, so if I were to suddenly, accidentally delete everything from their computer you'd guess that they'd be pretty pissed, it'd be great if anybody could help me on this!

thanks!

No it doesn't work like that.

The media creation tool just downloads the latest version of Windows on a thumb drive and configures it so that it can be installed. Even if you had an optical drive this is a better way to do it since the version of Windows 10 on your disk is outdated. When you bought that disk all you really paid for was the key. Once you install Windows on the new PC you can link that key to your Microsoft account and then as long as it's only on one PC at the time you can install it on anything you want and as many times as you want. :)

anort gets benefit of 2 upvotes lol

It creates media from a download, it doesn't remove anything on PC its created on. 1 installer USB can be used on many PC, its the license that is the main part of the purchase, the installer is free.
