ok so i am building a pc for my friend and the case that I have chosen is the Montech Air 100 ARGB and the mobo is the Gigabyte b550 K. what i want to know is if the mobo supports the argb fans on the case because my friend said the mobo doesn't have argb fan headers. is this true and if so, what mobo should i get? here are the links.

From your case link;
"4 pre-installed 120mm ARGB fans are connected by the included lighting controller, that can be easily controlled by the LED button on the case".

The mobo in your link has no RGB or ARGB headers. The mobo in your text doesn't exist AFAIK.

That board doesn't have ANY RGB headers, at all. Not standard RGB and not ARGB.

And there is no B550-K. There is only a B550m-k. One would be ATX while the one that actually exists is micro ATX.

What other hardware are you planning to run on this board as in CPU, memory, graphics card? Exact models would be helpful. This is a pretty terrible low end very basic board.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-core, 12-Thread
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE CPU Air Cooler
Mobo:GIGABYTE B550M K
Ram: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series (Intel XMP) DDR4 RAM 16GB (2x8GB) 3600MT/s CL18
Gpu: XFX Speedster SWFT210 Radeon RX 7600 Graphics Card
SSD: SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 1TB
PSU: EVGA 100-N1-0650-L1, 650 N1, 650W
Case: Montech AIR 100 ARGB Micro-ATX Tower

the budget for the pc was around 750 so this is what i came up with but i didn't realize the mobo didn't support argb.

So, on top of that board not having any RGB headers, that memory kit is also not listed on the motherboard QVL list or on the G.Skill memory configurator as compatible. There are other Ripjaws and Trident Z Neos kits that are, but that one is not.

And, that EVGA N1 power supply is one of the absolute WORST pieces of crap that has ever been sold by a major well known PSU brand in the last ten or fifteen years. It's really about as bad as the old Thermaltake TR2 units. You want to totally avoid that model as well as many other EVGA models. The B2, G2, G3, G6, G7, P2 and T2 EVGA models are good. Mostly the rest are either garbage or very mediocre. There are likely a few other newer ones that might be "ok" that I've neglected to include but for the most part those are it.

Not very good are the W1, N1, B1, B3 (Most B3 models failed Aris Mpitziopoulos stringent testing), BQ, BR, BT, G5 and G1 NEX models should for sure be avoided.

What is the the most that your friend is actually able to afford to throw at this thing?

so the ram won't work and the psu is really bad? the max budget was $900 but he needed a monitor, kbm, and mousepad included. however the problem is he already ordered it and at this point i just need to know if everything will work together.

wait so the rgb on the fans will still work from the controller and you don't need an argb header?

  • ARGB Light Show Right Out of The Box - 4 pre-installed 120mm ARGB fans are connected by the included lighting controller, that can be easily controlled by the LED button on the case or managed through motherboard ARGB software.

The memory can work they don't have all memory to test, you might need to manually set the speed, timings, and voltage.

EDIT the PSU is very poor thus just a 2 year warranty but your not using high end parts so you might be OK. I would return it if possible and buy better quality of course at a higher cost.

I set those in the bios right? what are the timings and voltage though? i think i know how to set the speed.

Then do something like this. And you don't need a big twin finstack cooler for the 5600, 5600G or 5600x. A single GOOD finstack cooler will do perfectly fine. In fact, the stock cooler will do fine, but it does have an annoying tendency to ramp up and down which will drive you nuts because the wraith coolers are not really very good to be honest. They will work, but they are annoying as hell.

This would be much better. There are a few things in the build I don't like such as the graphics card and the case, but I'll leave that up to you. Personally I recommend spending ten dollars more and going with the Sapphire Pulse RX 7600 as it's a much better card than the XFX. Otherwise, this keeps you from shooting yourself in the foot and everything here I have personally checked for compatibility including the memory. And, this is a FAR, FAR better motherboard that has both RGB and ARGB headers.
