I want to install another graphics card into my computer i have one R9 270X at the minute and i want to add another one of the same graphics card. I currently have a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard, i have a 750W power supply and a AMD Piledriver FX-4 Quad Core 4300 CPU. Can anyone tell me if this will work in an SLI configuration?

Solution
SLI is Nvidia's dual card configuration. AMD cards use Crossfire. But yes, you can add a 2nd card. The only drawback is the 2nd PCIe x16 slot is only x4 lanes electrically on that board. There may be some performance loss.

So will i actually get any better preformance at all?

I kinda doubt it would be enough to justify purchasing a 2nd card. Some games may work better than others, tho. I used to have a x16, x4 board several years ago. That was in the PCIe version 1.0 days. There was little to no performance improvement, and in some cases the card in the slower x4 slot dragged down performance of the card in the x16 slot. Scaling was poor and micro stutter was noticeable.

Your best solution for a faster gaming rig would be to sell the R9-270X and put the money towards a faster single card. However, your FX-4300 will be the limiting factor if you go with too fast of a card. The RX-470 (and possibly the RX-480) would be a good AMD choice. Especially if you play DX12 or Vulkan API games.

I regretted doing crossfire on my 2x R9-280. I would recommended you to against it. I sold those cards and with the same money I bought GTX 1060 6Gb and run better than crossfire 2x R9-280 and no hassle and less power usage.

Really not worth it
