Does the RX 580 use the same chip as the RX 480?

I've recently purchased the MSI RX 580 and i'm not sure if it uses the same GPU as the 480, also was the RX 580 a smarter card to purchase? All answers are appreciated

Yes, the RX 580 is a slightly tweaked, re-branded RX 480. Sure, it was a good choice is the price difference (and availability) wasn't too extreme.

I'm not a fan of mining, I hate how its affecting the prices of PC parts.

The RX 560 is generally available and "beneath" the miners' consideration. It would be a solid GPU in a general purpose rig, like for the parents.

Thanks for the suggestion, I might choose the 560 but i'm still doing research to get the best deal.
