Hi guys,

First time building a PC here.

My SSD has two cable entries, two different ones. I know one is sata, but not sure which one, and the other one I don't know what it is. My question is, do both entries have to be plugged? The one I'm not sure about seems to fit with a plug on the PSU on the other end but this makes no sense as external hard drives do not need to be connected to a PSU in order to function, right?

Please help.

Thanks

Solution
Yes, both need to be connected.

The smaller one is for data (to the motherboard), the larger for power from the PSU.

Some external drives (SSD or smaller 2.5" HDD) can draw power from the USB port.
