your buddy is yankin your leg I have a 8800gtx and unless he has a QX6700 or x6800 I got 11328 and my sig is what I have
haha i just told him and he said he is gonna make a video of it running the test. we will see.
he has a 4300 oc to 3.2ghz
I feel pretty bad, I expected 7000 points out of my system at least :( but as everybody knows 06 is very hard to get a high score.
You're doing fine, buddy. Your '06 score is low due to your video card 7900 GS. Your friend just lies to you. His score could be based on '05 but never '06. Your friend has an E4300 OC'd to 3.2 GHz with an 8800GTS and he claimed his '06 score is 16k? I have an X6800 OC'd to 3.4GHz and 2 X 8800GTX running in SLI mode (GPU stock speed) on an eVGA 680i and my '06 scores is 14998. And your friend wants to beat my score by a 1000 with an OC'd E4300 and one single 8800GTS? That's ridiculous. Just go to www.Futuremark.com and look for yourself the '06 score list and the rig info. All the people with 16k score and above in 3DMark06 have heavy OC'd dual 8800GTX and their procs, some with water-cooled and some even with liquid nitrogen

I got a little bit of a scare after reading that your friend got 16k with a gts, as I have a e6700 @ 3.6 and a XFX 8800GTX extreme overclocked XXX edition and I score 12350 in 3dMarks06.
Glad you guys cleared that up quickly cause I was thinking of down grading to a gts lol

my friend has a single 8800gts 320 and he says he gets 16k in 06 :S

anyways, ill see what my 05 score is...

Your friend, alas, is deceiving you. This is an E6600 + 8800GTX:

Well yeah I can confirm by you guys that he never got 16k. Is only up to him to send me the pic now.

So my score is fine, I need to upgrade my 7900gs asap.

If you have not you should really set up an account so you can compare you're score with Futuremark's data base. With the free version you can store five results and compare them by searching different cpu and gpu configs.

It is a synthetic bench but it is a still a very good resource.

You can:
See if you are performing on the curve.
See what configurations are scoring better.
Compare you're gpu with other cpu's or vice versa
See what kind of overclocks others are achieving.

The only thing to keep in mind is that the highest scores are people who have set everything high just to get that score maybe sacrificing stability and safety.

With a similar setup (albeit with a lower end DS3 mobo and no OC) my E6600 scored a 46XX. Agree, the 7900 performs fine in practice, somewhat disappointing from a benchmark perspective. It'll do for now though.

yeah, the 7900gs will live for now and couple more months of life but is always better if can and upgrade :)

I have a question... how much more would you pay for a factory OC card?

Try running it at 1024x768, at that res, i get about 9000 points with my overclokc, and 6900 without.

I got 3013 on 06 with a AW8D motherboard pentium 805 oc'ed to 3.4 gigabyte 7600gs 256mg graphics card and 1 gig "2x512" megs of ddr2 667 OC'ed to 682 and a maxtor maxline III 250 gig sataII hard drive "works as good as a low end raid drive lol, sandra tested it's bandwidth several times to be 91-94 meg/s"

So even though I bragged about my hard drive, I am jsut giving data for comparasin. I think for a 7900gs you performed well. ^^

I get 4336 with the rig in my sig with only 1 gb of ram so your score looks pretty right considering my CPU is at stock.

i paid about $30 more for my oc'd 8800gts 640, and after rebate, it came to 400, so i think the oc and full warranty/stability/no worries about setting my house on fire warranted an extra 30 dollars.. unless you're not a n00b like i am, then you'd be fine getting a standard card then oc'ing it yourself.

btw, i got a 9471 with e6600 oc'd to 3.2 and bfg 8800gts oc2. kick ass score, considering i'm running vista :D

does anyone know much performance loss you get in vista when running 3dmark?
