Does this build work? Switching to Ryzen

All checks out but.. I'd get another PSU. I would take 16 gb of faster ram since your ryzen will be trash with slow RAM. And IMO you dont need optical drive.

it might, but I feel kind of inefficient setup.
1. Ryzen loves high speed ram.
2. This gpu is not much stronger than ryzen 5G

so my change on this build:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 5 2400G 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor ($225.67 @ AX86 Gaming Systems)
Motherboard: Gigabyte - GA-AB350M-Gaming 3 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($137.78 @ Kogan)
Memory: Team - Vulcan 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR4-3000 Memory ($133.00 @ Umart)
Storage: Kingston - HyperX Fury 120GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Seagate - BarraCuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($56.00 @ Shopping Express)
Case: Corsair - Carbide SPEC-M2 MicroATX Mid Tower Case ($68.00 @ Umart)
Power Supply: Antec - High Current Gamer 520W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply ($85.00 @ Mwave Australia)
Optical Drive: Asus - DRW-24D5MT DVD/CD Writer ($16.00 @ Shopping Express)
Total: $721.45

you should end up cheaper as ram price was not included in what you had.

Sorry i wasnt building a new pc just switching to ryzen.

The reason I chose to switch to ryzen instead of getting a i5 is because i wanted upgradability from the extra 2 RAM slots and extra pcie slot. I also wanted to put the Intel CPU and motherboard in another old pc which the motherboard in the had leaking capacitors. I currently think that ryzen 1200 with a oc could be better that the pentium for my purpose other than gaming as i do alot of CPU intensive tasks out side of gaming. I’m looking to spending around 250aud switching to AMD.

Current:
Pentium G4560 CPU
MSI B250M PRO VD Motherboard

Want:
Ryzen 1200 CPU
MSI B350M Mortar Arctic AM4 AMD Motherboard

Ryzen does alot better on multitasking performance which I do alot and with the pentium playing games like csgo with discord and a chome tab open really stresses it out. Having four real cores should help that alot if needing to sacrifice a few frames in game normally. Plus with the the Intel Motherboard and CPU i can setup another computer mentoined before. I also like to host small game server for me and friends so that may work to. The pentium still suprises me with how capable it it tho still able to keep up but barely.

It has a performance bump over the 1200 as it is a second gen processor.

For that price i can get a i5 7400 or a 7500 is lucky. But I would not have future upgradability like am4 currently offer.
And also one graphics card price drop i may go straight to a gtx 1060 because from what i have seen a over clocked ryzen 1200 has much more overhead space compared to a pentium g4560. But that is just what i’m thinking

ok, you can get am4 adaptability, but without all the features.
best cpu you can get 7500 for the price of cpu + motherboard will be good for a while.
you need to look at those 2 links:

you don't have 4 channels for ram :) you have 2x2 at best

and adding more sticks will not change much. Inserting faster sticks is the thing you want :)

in gaming Intel beats ryzens a lot :) so if you go for GTX 1060
pentium > ryzen 1200 > i5 7500
so for most bang for the buck, best option is to go for i5.

here a video of ryzen 1200 OC vs intel 7400 and intel have better fps :)

Why don't you stop being a fanboy. Games are going more multithreaded. AMD has beaten intel to the next process so AMD chips will be the best in terms of IPC from next year.

If i get a i5 it mean that i won’t be able to setup a second pc with the spare Intel moberbord and cpu. Plus I don’t just game and having 4 real core speeds things up while working. Beings a guys that like fiddle with things and hosting game servers wouldn’t the 1200 be a better option in my case?
