Well he bought a 144hz monitor for it. So will it work? All I need is a yes or no answer.

and what version of hdmi the laptop have?
and if the monitor support 144hz thru hdmi?

if this is a cable is to be used for a laptop then i doubt the laptop can output a 144hz signal.

Cable is fine. The HDMI port on the laptop needs to be v1.3 or higher to output 144Hz at 1080p.
