Please check the linked build and tell me what you think.
I intend to buy a GPU later on so the PSU needs to be able to power it. For now I will reuse my GTX 960.
The PC will be used at work (Unity, lots of disk and CPU heavy operations).
I am especially not sure of the motherboard.
The budget is around $1000.
Needed parts: CPU + cooling, mobo, PSU, RAM, storage, case.

Yes going from i5-8600K to i7-8700K will give you noticeable performance gain over time.
The will be no big drop in load times of games if you choose MX500 over 970 Evo, the only noticeable performance difference can be seen while file transfers otherwise no big noticeable difference.
ASUS TUF board comes packing lot better quality components compared to MSI board and also is backed with solid 5Yr warranty. MSI boards still have QC issues therfore I never recommend MSI boards either go with Gigabyte or better ASUS board both Gigabyte and ASUS pack in similar quality but ASUS has little edge over Gigabyte for making its software user friendly and packs in greater software support.

Go for i7 instead of i5 will give you smooth experience even if many multiple tasks are being performed and is a better option on long run.

Thank you. I got a couple of questions.
Is the upgrade from 8600K to 8700K really worth downgrading Samsung 970 Evo to Crucial MX500?
What's better in Asus TUF Z370 Pro Gaming compared to MSI Z370-A PRO? The price difference is significant.
