Does toothpaste work as well as thermal paste

Hi, I just got an Athlon x4 860k of amazon for 30 bucks but the seller forgot to give me thermal paste and I don't feel like driving to the computer store to buy some. Can I use toothpaste as a temporary substitute for thermal paste?

No, it works but very badly. Like 20C different to an actual thermal paste.

Actually I think Tom's hardware here already done the test with toothpaste and it comes around 20C worse than the worst Thermal paste.

For a couple of hours, it will work, sort of but not really well.
But if it is only for a couple of hours use....get yer butt outta the chair and go to the store.

Someone tested Crest toothpaste as a Thermal Interface Material and its lifespan is around 6~12 hours.
