Does Traditional SATA-III and PCIe SSD works together?

Help-Seeking Post:
I have a GIGABYTE B360M HD3 Motherboard and it has both M.2 port and PCI express port.

I want to know if I connect an NVMe PCIe Gen3 x4 2280 M.2 SSD then will it work together with SATA-III HDD? I know it sounds stupid because NVME & AHCI are not the same platforms. But I now have an opportunity of having an NVME PCIe SSD as a replacement of a faulty SATA-III SSD (with extra payment though) and that's why I need this clearance before making any decision.

If by 'work together' you mean have them both running in the same system with no issues, then yes you can run a SATA-3 HDD (or multiple) + M.2 NVMe SSD together on that Motherboard with no issues. Hope this helps! :)

But do you really think that NVME M2 SSD runs properly on AHCI platform? I must select AHCI otherwise the BIOS doesn't show the SATA connected storage which is my concern. :(

As far as I know PCIe NVMe drives do not run on the Sata interface, they run on the PCI express interface. AHCI is specific to the sata interface only. Leave AHCI on and you will be fine.

Thanks for your quick response. I have one more query about my motherboard. If you visit the link you'll see there are 2 PCIexpress slots in between graphics card slots. I'm a little confused because I found some NVMe PCIe SSD which are designed like an external card (they have the screw hole like generic cards).

So my question is, "Is it okay to use PCIEX slot for NVMe SSDs?"

Example SSD:

Anyways, Thanks for all your efforts. Really appreciated.

Yes, essentially it would be the same thing in the end. M.2 it not exactly a physical communication interface in its own it is a port that can use different buses and interfaces for communication i.e. you can have M.2 SATA or you can have M.2 PCIe or even USB. If you are using PCI lanes, the end result will be the same irrespective of if you use the lanes from a PCI slot or from an M.2 slot.
