Does upgrading the router's firmware help me to get the right speed

Hello,
A week ago I upgrade my DSL connection to 1mb from 512kb
my ISP told me : Withtin 2 days you'll get the new speed
yesterday i notices that the connection speed is still 512kb
so I contacted them to tell them.. they told me that they upgrade it to 1 mb
but I still got my old speed 512kb
so if i upgrade the router firmware to the latest one will that help me , I have Billion 5200G RC wireless Router

Try going to http://www.speedtest.net and see what your speed shows up as. If you have a personal router try disconnecting it and connecting directly to the one your isp provided for you. Thats a really slow connection speed, and pretty much any router should be able to handle that if your isp has things setup properly regardless of having an outdated firmware.
