Does Win 8 Require User to MS App Store

Does M$ require users to use the M$ App Store or is there a way around it?

If you want an app that is exclusively available on the store only, then you're only option is to use the app store.

But if there's nothing you need from the store, simply don't use it

So basically I hear you saying, if want a M$ app then I buy it and dl through the app store, otherwise for other apps, like Steam associated products I can buy and dl direct?
