Does Windows 7 work better for dual core CPUs compared to Windows XP?

I heard this somewhere before --that Windows XP was never designed for use with dual core CPUs or dual CPUs, and because the dual CPU was more popular at the time Windows 7 was designed it works better. Any truth to this?

Newer revisions of Windows generally always have tweaks to the thread handling processes. Win8 is supposed to have better handling still than Win7. When XP was released dual core CPUs existed but they were not common place. It is reasonable to assume that MS will have devoted more time to performance tweaks in later versions due to the rise of multi-core systems.

Windows Xp service Pack 3 can run on Dual Core processor although Service pack 1 and Service Pack 2 also can run but they can not use your cpu performance completely.
You should install Windows 7 which is a lot better than old XP.
But my recommendation for you is Windows 8 which is best for performance on any CPU.

Bro XP is much older now ...although Win 7 is okay but as per latest Win 8 is must.

Yes to some extent. Actually it is about if apps can utilize all cores and more importantly all threads on these cores. Apps are now coming in market based on this idea to utilize maximum no of threads. Anyhow, from the cores and threads utilization perspective, Windows 8 will outperform Windows 7 and XP. Though Windows 7 Ultimate edition was released when this concept was in ho debate. So it may perform well in this regard but there is no reference available on it.

Basically every revision of windows has processes enhancements. Some very little and some huge. Windows xp to win 7 is huge but with the latest things coming out of xp they were comparable.

And too that, i say hogwash. Xp can work perfectly with xp and im fairly confident got updates to support duel processing. Now windows 7 had from day one support for duel and quads.

From previous experience and everything ive seen, win7> xp by far. Unless your an ultimate geek 😛
