Dogged by Great Adventures That Have Timed-Action-Sequences?

Discouraged and very frustrated! I recently finished Myst IV--Revelation,
a Neverwinter Nights module called Twilight, and its follow-on, Midnight,
part way. I'm really really tired of timed-action-sequences that offer no
means of escaping from either by a cheat code or easy game mode.

One solution is to spend a lot more time researching and reading reviews of
a game to avoid ones, regardless of otherwise how good them might be, that
have t-a-s in them.

Another solution is return to my adventure roots and see what is going on
with interactive-fiction once again--that's why I'm here.

I can't hold my breath on this because I well done graphics, music and
sound ambiance, action and RPG in my adventures...I just hate t-a-s.

Where do you go for an I-F game rating list to make it relatively easy to
zero in on the "best" I-F?

In the past I have tried replaying a couple of the old classics--I actually
played all of them back then when they came out--but it never works so they
will have to remain as most excellent memories. I can't replay the past
anymore then I can relive the past. So, if you are going to try to suggest
a text adventure you might want to focus on something grand that was done
recently.

I don't know for sure what kind of answers I'm looking for except that I'm
fed up with t-a-s and I'm going to skip them if I can.

Thanks for listening. :)

The place to be is probably: http://www.carouselchain.com/if/statistics.php

I've only recently started looking into this genre of fiction, so I
shall not claim that I know all the best works; but I can say that I
found Photopia especially brilliant. (You must like puzzleless IF with
only mild interactivity, though.) However, the best thing to do is to
browse around and try some different hings. Have fun. :)

Okay, no more questions...I have my work cut out for me now. And there is
the FAQ too. I should read through it once.

I have decided, personally, after a couple of days deliberation, that I
will not pursue IF, MUDs, MMORPGs, EQ2, or WoW at this time. This still
leaves SP graphic adventures, action, and RPGs and there remain plenty of
those. I'll continue to sift out timed-action-sequences and do all I can
to promote some means to "adjust" t-a-s at the in-game level. Thanks for
your help.
