hi i am soon going to be buyin a custom computer
but i dont know which quad core to buy cause i have 2 choises at the exact same price

here are the cpu's:
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 and a Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400

which on sould i pick ????

The Q6700 has an front side bus of 1066MHz, whereas the Q 8400 has a FSB of 1333MHz. They both differ in L2 cache. I personally prefer the Q6700 with an L2 cache of 8 MB compared to the Q8400 with an L2 cache of 4 MB

So, go with the Q6700

+1000 on a newer CPU/chipset.

Look for a system with AMD's Phenom II series or Intel's i5-750 / i3-530. Post some PCs (full specifications too please, including your planned/current monitor resolution) with those CPUs according to your budget and we can help ya out. :)

I wouldn't go with anything in the core i3 or lower core i5(600s or lower). They're only dual cores... AMD's Phenom II 955 C3 revision easily beats them on price/performance($130 for lowest i3/$160 for 955)

The Phenom II 955 would be best price/performance but the lowest performer by a small amount.
The core i5-750($200) would be a good choice if you don't plan on crossfire or sli.
Core i7 930($300) if you ever wanted to use dual video cards.

The i3 isn't a bad deal once overclocking is taken into account. Most games still only benefit from dual core and even the multi-core ones show minimum gain unless a high end GPU setup is used (unless its a more CPU-dependent game).

Agreed however, Phenom II 955 is the all around best price/performance.

if you have the money i'd definitely suggest phenom 2 955 or the core i5... seriously they are so cheap... if u can afford it why settle for the core i3...
