Question Dont throw out your old pc.

Whenever i get a new pc i always keep the one i had been using and remove almost everything from it , i then use it to download things or to try something out before i risk putting it on my new pc.

Their are many reasons why a pc gets trashed , it could be a virus that is so hard to get rid of your only solution is to do a full re-install.
One of the most common ways to get something you did not want is because how a web pages downloads are set out.
Many years ago things you "might" want were listed at the top and unticked , now you mostly find "extras" at the bottom of a page and they are ready ticked so if you dont scroll all the way down you get something you did not want.

Almost every one of my old PC's have gone to a friend of mine. I just give them to him once I am on a new one.
Almost...
My last PC is still in my room, I upgraded 2020 and it seemed like a good idea to have a spare working pc, just in case
I also have an old PC from 2006 in garage as I liked its case too much to give to my friend... now its just scrap and a spiders home in garage.

I am torn about what to do with last PC, I like its case still but I don't really have anywhere to put it. Our garage is full of my dads stuff and he died 6 years ago. Its something we have to do but there is never the right time. I can't put that much out there.

My friend has young children and my last PC case has an interesting design and wouldn't survive well if liquids were poured in the top - this is the top

Yes, it does look like its back... its not.

So I am hesitant to give it to him even if it would be an upgrade as he still using my previous PC which is 14 years old now. He really should buy his own but he never really had a lot of money.

I started building my own PCs a little more than a decade ago. Ive recently gained "critical mass" with parts i've replaced over the years and especially after switching from AMD to Intel last year with a complete new system. I've given parts to friends but recently have built different franken-systems with Ubuntu and multimedia servers. Going back to school to finish off some programs it's nice to have spare PCs to experiment with. I also like the comfort of having spare parts to revert back to incase of failure, etc.

Like USAFRet said you'll eventually run out of room like some of my friends. You can only have so many older systems with AOE2 installed for LAN parties in your basement, you'll find you have more computers than friends ...

USA is right about storage of old gear , since 2002 i am now on my 5th pc and first laptop , when i get a new pc i only save the very last one i was using as a spare because as you say you run out of space , i also save the last monitor i was using as well just in case i ever have a problem and might need to know if its a monitor or card fault.
