DOOM 3 and my FX 5900

Hi guys, I have recently looked over a DOOM III benchmark and I have a question do you think my eVGA GEFORCE FX 5900 non ultra will be capable of running DOOM III on 1024x768 resolution with quincux2x aa and 4x af also with shadows on and high settings, you think I can get at least 20 fps?

My ful pc:
Win xp pro
ECS L7VMM 4X AGP mainboard
AMD 2100+
512 MB DDR PC 2100

Wait you have DOOM 3 and then you have DOOM III, which one is it? 20 fps?!? That's too slow, if it gets 300 FPS in Quake 3 and you're only going to get 20fps now, there's obviously something wrong with this game!

I've heard that with Doom ]|[ the FX series will be slightly slower than the ATI at default, but much faster than the XGI with their custom path.

20 fps is SUPER SHITTY dumbass. You can't play an FPS at 20 fps. GOD I hate people that play games at 20, even 30 fps. LOWER THE DAMN SETTINGS and get at least 40+ avg.

OC and/or flash your damn card.

BTW Doom 3 will run fine, as its "optimized" to look shittier and run smoother on your card.

That's ok. First of all CS is an abomination among PC games. Recently Microsoft released a Windows update that fixed a major bug in the system, which allowed counter strike to be installed.
CS Sucks.

I'll own you at: UT(all of em/any type), Q3, SoF2, HL (and mods thereof, NOT including CS, which is a disgrace to the legend that is Half Life), and ALOT of other stuff, such as games made using the unreal and quake engines. Anything but rainbow six type sh*t (very "realistic" military shooters), or CS, basically.

CS is great because it is the best example of why pc gaming beatss consoles. A community made game is perhaps the most popular online game ever - and free to download. The fact that it brings so many ppeople together is enough to make it great. Don't be bitter because you can't do wall jumps and rocket jumps, man I love the level of realism in UT2003 /4 🙂

There are tons of idiots out there too, that doesn't mean we should aspire to the common level of the ignorant masses! There are more DELL users out there than enthusiasts who build their own computers too, which doesn't make being a DELL user something to crow about; and perhaps that's why there's tons of CS players too. CS = DELL. You don't mind owning one/playing it, just don't tell anyone about it.

Similar to what somoene here said about owning an FX5900U, it's like sleeping with an ugly chick; Fun but you don't want anyone else to see you/know about it. :evil:

The number of TheSIMs munchers doesn't mean it's good either.

Main reason for CS's popularity. CHEAP (FREE FOR MANY), LOW REQUIREMENTS, OLD enough to have proliferated to 3rd world countries.

Wife's still getting 100 fps solid on her GeForce 4 Ti 4200, 128MB graphics card with a AMD 2800+ and 2 512MB sticks of dual channel PC3200 in a ASUS A7N8X Deluxe motherboard.

Cards 3 years old now 😉

What are you guys doing wrong with your graphics cards ?

I play Day Of Defeat online with my current system specs below at 100 FPS solid as that's as fast as the servers give us but I know in the background the frame rates are above 500 fps + but you can play DoD at the desktop.

I do know that I get 250 FPS playing Microsoft Combat Flight simulator at home and at least 100 FPS online. Any system that can produce FPS out of MCFS is doing well.

I cant even imagine trying to play a first person shooter online at 20 fps you would get your ass handed to you!!

If for some reason the server is lagging a little and its a graphics intensive situation where 4 or 5 guys meet at the same time in a tight ally or street corner and there are grenades thrown and gun muzzle flashes and all hell braking loose my fps might drop to 98 from 100 fps that is the true test of a graphics card online and the guy that walks away from that kind of fire fight knows his graphics card saved his ass.

In DoD you can type in net_graph 3 in the game pull down console and it will then display your FPS and connection speed including loss and choke in the lower right hand corner of the screen, of witch I have none they stay 0 and 0 when most guys have connection lag and have 5 loss and 10 to 50 choke that can effect your fps if those numbers go up.

Packet loss online will cause all sorts of nasty things but anyone pulling only 20 fps out of a game needs to find an AXE and a chopping block for the Box they currently own. It is not hard to upgrade if all you have is a few splinters lying around.

Not in doom3 she isn't! Although that is a pretty nice rig there, but I think you'll be lucky to get 5FPS if you run with all the settings the guy's asking about...

2xAA, 4xAF, DOOM3 - you think a Ti4200 would get 100FPS? :lol: no chance...

No she does not have all the settings maxed out dont be silly. But Doom is what got her on the computer in the first place it is her favorite game and she's played it forever and she does all her own set-up. I worked in electronics for 20 years

but the wife has been doing it for longer then that.

In fact her first job out of university was to configure the computers for the Bank Of Montreal in the ADCON Center.
