Doom 3 config question

Just curious about this: My PC is an AMD 64 3000+, 1 GB RAM, Geforce 6800 128 RAM. Plenty of horsepower here to run this nicely. Why does the autoconfig consistently only set everything at 640x480 res and medium textures? I wind up changing the settings manually, but I was just wondering. The hardware I bought is not cheap, either. No mysterious OEMs or special edition pieces.

Thanks for the input.

It sets it to medium cuz you've got a 128MB vid card.

Don't know why the rez is set to 6x4. Meh, I don't worry about that stuff, I always play around with gfx settings. I don't trust a game to know how it s/b set up.

The only game I've played that has done a decent job of auto configing settings was HL2. But I still need to up my AA and Aniso :)

heh.. remember my friends FX5600, which defaulted at high, since it was a 256mb card... what a slideshow 😛

Doom 3's autoconfig is complete (obligatory peep).

First of all, I noticed NO, hear me NO difference between "High" and "Ultra" Detail. That being said I am playing at 800x600 and might be missing some really small textures somewhere. Basicly, you want to set it to high detail, and turn all the options on (AA maybe not) and go for the highest resolution that you get 60 fps at. That works for me with almost every game except hl2 which *gasp* autoconfiged correctly.

no difference? you might want a new graphicscard or monitor

but yes.. 60fps is ideal, if not 80fps is the gamers dream. I prefer high imagequality though, and can easily adapt to 40fps.

it's just a matter of preference, i believe.

you cant really (physically) tell a difference above 60 FPS.

although it is nice to know you can do that.

i will not argue that, it has been debated to hell multiple times :)

that point is the min. fps raise as opposed to the average 😉
