I am running Doom 3 with surround sound enabled, and getting a real annoying clicking sound. The sound is not constant and its sorta like a pitter patter in the background. It happens the most when I am walking around, but if I talk to someone and spin in a circle I don't hear it. I got an asus p4c800 deluxe with the onboard sound disabled and am using an audigy 1 on the 4th pci slot with no other pci devices (no irq conflicts) with Klipsch 5.1 speakers. I don't get a clicking in any other applications and I don't have the volume in game fully up so it is not clipping. Any suggestions would be excellent, I think I am going crazy, I long for the dark silence of me and my plasma gun running around without a damn clicking in the background.

Indeed my friend...your mother.

A temporary solution you can try is to bind a key to "s_restart" (You can also type it into the console). What this does, is restart the game's sound engine. It's worked for alot of folks but it's only a short term fix. You'll probably need to do it several times over the course of a session, when the crackling gets bad.

I was having trouble with my guns sounding really distorted when being fired but i had to update my sound card drivers. Then everything sounded good.
