I think I remember reading somewhere that somebody created a mod for Doom 3 that allowed you to play the original Doom game (the entire game) on one of the in-game arcade machines.

If that's true, then it's quite impressive that you are able to play a game within a game.

Could somebody here please try and dig up information about this? Because I can't seem to find any.

Nope, tough luck pal...there's no official mod/update that is there from ID Software. But can't say about unofficial ones though. Even the updated Doom 3 (BFG edition) , released in 2012 doesn't have that functionality (game within a game).

Just as an "aside" right off the top of my head I can think of 3 recent games that let you play a "game within a game" Fallout 4 has a few PipBoy cartridges you can find that will allow you to play a few retro Atari 2600 style games. GTA IV had a cube puzzle game I can't really remember. And probably the coolest was The Warriors which had an "Armies of the Night" arcade game in your headquarters that let you play a old school 16 bit brawler with characters from your gang.

Yes, I know.

What I meant is that I think I remembered reading somewhere that there was a mod made that allowed you to play the full "doom" game on one of those in-game turkey puncher arcade machines.
