I bought it and returned it unopened. After playing the demo, I'm glad I didn't open it. Honestly, I miss not being able to Bench it more than not playing it. When it hit's the bargain bins at $9.99, maybe I'll buy it again.

Dang..so D3 really isnt that good? Did see some on eBay pretty cheap, but now I just might wait for the $10 bin too. ha.

Doom 3 has been getting a lot of bad press lately. It is actually a fun. For $29.99 it is worth it. However, understand this is coming from a person who has not yet played HL 2 or Far Cry (which I just bought). If you want a scary FPS, Doom 3 is the way to go. It has a great atmosphere (very dark and klostrophobic (sp?)). I like the theme of science and the occult mixing so maybe that's what I find so appealing. Perhaps in comparison to the newest big name FPS it pales, but I'm having fun.

Sure, it has its problems. Namely, it is too dark even with the brightness up all the way. Also, the focus is much more on scaring than blasting scores of zombies in a room. I think I've seen others criticize it for repetetive play, but what FPS doesn't get that way after some time? HL 1 was a yawner by the end.

Maybe you should play the demo first and make a decision from there. I think it's worth getting. Then again, I also loved Doom 1 and 2 way back in the day.

I've written so much hate on D3 since it came out that I can't be bothered retyping it all..... But basically D3 is only worth it if your talking cheeeeeap.

It looks good for about 10 mins.
It IS scary, scariest game ever until u learn they use the same tricks over and over and u acclimatise.
AI is woeful.
Blatent enemy spawning.
Boring uninspired gameplay.
The list goes on. I reckon only part time gamers who are more used to fluffy console games would get a kick outta D3.

And despite all of that, there are still people who enjoy it like myself. I play Far Cry as well, but in my opinion it has awfully unbalanced AI and a weak plotline, the same things people complain about in Doom. There has been a surprising amount of backlash against the big titles this year, surprisingly even HL2 ; the problem is that these games are so over-hyped, and certain magazines go so ape-[-peep-] in their reviews, that some people become cynical to the whole thing. None of the games delivered half of what the PR claimed.

well.. I FINALLY, downloaded the demo. I must say, it needs a beefer system than HL2. But it is very scary, Im sweatin playin it.. 😉
Very good lighting and shadows, but it does get old..quick. Whole diff ballgame than HL2...not bad tho.

Sorry. Oddly enough I used to trust magazines to review games until I read about the DRIV3R scandal where the massively bugged and crap game was given fantastic scores by paper mags in return for exclusives etc.
