I do wonder how much performance is attributed to the usage of an external measurement program, possibly marginally affected by hyperthreading?

The older Athlon XP CPU family cannot compete with the new Pentium 4 and Athlon 64 models anymore. In real tests we encountered situations when the fps rate got below the comfortable value of 30 with Athlon XPs. By the way, the same can be seen with Athlon 64 3000+ and 3200+ CPUs. That’s why we recommend you to use Pentium 4 models with frequencies from 3GHz up and Athlon 64 models with ratings from 3200+ up, if you want to be absolutely warranted against any accidental slowdowns.

The only thing i can say vs. that is i haven't seen my fps drop below 30 in doom3 yet. In fact with my crappy 2500+@3200+ i haven't had any trouble with dropping below 30 and thats running my desktop and game at 1024x728.
I think people are treating this game like it's something more than it is.
And to fight off the fanboy's, my friend reports that he hasn't had any trouble as well with under 30fps. He's using 2.6c not overclocked. 1gb ram w/ 9800pro. And to make sure he's not lying this weekend we'll see.

Also to report.. i've been in a 12 person Mplayer game and had no issues with choppyness there either, although i admit i dropped the resolution down just in case.
But maybe my monitor's overclocked or something.. 😀
or better yet maybe i'm just so good i don't get into situations where there are 4 enemies on the screen at once. since that's all the game throws at you.

**also to be fair, i am going to purposely get my fps to drop i just need to know where to go i suppose.

wow i almost feel like they were trying to make the p4's look better...its like "Hey look that p4 has 0.5 fps more in that demo than the a64" , "Dude the a64 got more than 10fps more in that other demo" , "But hey the p4 own because it got 0.1fps more in this one"

I'm going to have to put my ranting on hold for a bit, ww2 mod is out for battlefield vietnam. Funny how after 4 hours of gameplay of doom3 i'm back to bfvietnam.

Well I remember seeing a graph with an XP-2500 Barton (unlocked) running at 2.375ghz and an A64-3000+. Both MB's had the same hard drive, the same memory, and the same graphics card. Both systems scored almost exactly 19,500 in 3Dmark. I looked for it but I can't find it anymore.

I don't want to piss anyone off, but after i put that a64 system together, the only thing i can say that i really wanted out of that system was the cheapo 150 dollar samsung monitor.
I will admit that the actual look of BFV was smoother, therefor it had to be the cpu since it's the same exact video card.
But for me to go to a a64 3200+ system right now would be stupid of me.
