double adapter setup (dp to dvi-i + dvi-i to vga)?

So i got a new 1060 with 2 dp, 2 hdmi and 1 dvi-d port. The problem is that at the moment i have to use a monitor with only vga port + i have an dvi-i to vga adapter I used with my old R7 260x.
So the question is if i buy another adapter like dp to dvi-i or hdmi to dvi-i, can i use it like
dp to dvi-i + dvi-i to vga(my old setup) ?

Why bother? You will have to buy an active adapter either way to convert from digital to analog. Why not just get the proper one?
