Hi, I am planning to build a cheap gaming PC using the following components:
CPU: X5460 (771 to 775 adapter attached)
MOBO: Asus P5G41T-M LX
RAM: Kingston HyperX FURY 8GB 1866mhz
HDD: 1TB 2.5 5400 (disk)
PSU: Corsair RM Series 450-Watt
GPU: ASUS Geforce 210 1GB

My questions are:
1. Will my x5460 work perfectly using the 771-775 adapter and modification in MOBO LGA 775 socket, without doing any BIOS tinkering or microupdate?
2. If I do the microupdate will it destroy Asus features like "CPU parameter recall" etc?
3. Do "Asus P5G41T-M LX" support overclocking CPU, GPU and RAM?
4. How to over clock x5460 in my MOBO [I am completely new 😛] and what is the speed limit (if i am going to use a good cooler)?
5. How I choose a "not an overkill" heat sink?
6. How to calculate the heat that has to be dissipated and what to look for to find that heat sink?
7. If overclocking is not supported or not going to be done then will a common Intel stock heat sink out of ebay will do the trick during peak load but stock speed?
8. The MOBO specs says that it supports 8GB of RAM in total and has two slots in total for 1333mhz DDR3 RAMs and also supports dual channel. My doubt is that I bought "Kingston HyperX FURY 1 x 8GB 1866mhz" for this MOBO, will it work in 1333mhz single channel in a single slot? Will a single slot support 8GB or is it that each of the slots can support only 4GB?

Done.... now please help me 🙁

Some extra details:

Please do not advice me on the below things:
1. Upgrading GPU
2. SSD
3. Dual channel RAM

GeForce 210:
I know..... but I have been living and gaming with only IGPs for the last 15 years or more and that too with Intel IGPs not the AMD APUs, so please do not say anything bad about ma first ever GPU that I was able to buy two moths back 🙁 I know its nothing compared to the new gen and top ends at the present market. But it was available for dirt cheap rate at about $18 in eBay (used one).
I compared this GPU with ma IGPs in my previous PCs and Laptops.
This GPU is able to play all of the games that was playing in lowest settings in those devices, in the ultra settings. Did not try to rate it with FPS but still just the settings that I used and the performance it gave is enough to make me believe that this piece is better than IGP.

I was looking at i7 and then because of limited budget I am going for these old and mod and hacks 🙁 Yes, GTX 960, i7-4790k and an Asus 1150 MOBO are in my list for the upgrade, till then I need this to work :)

I'm assuming most of this is second hand because that CPU is olddddd asf!! Hands down you cannot overclock that becuase it doesnt have an unlocked multiplier, this stuff is so old that, no offence, I dont think it's actually worth investing in. A stock cooler will be fine but that CPU will get very hot very fast because of its age. I doubt that it will be able to run many games at all, things like TF2 will be running at 30FPS or lower with nothing else running and graphics as low as they can go! Honestly you should save up more money and wait, even if you can't get a 4790K, if you get something on the 1150 platform it will give you the posibility to upgrade and play games without needing to ditch everything.

Sorry but the short answer is dont even bother!

I assumed the RAM would be fine but now you say it's not working, it is becuase the mobo doesnt support that RAM.

This is Asus' website and the page for that mobo. Beofre buying parts please do research. It cleary states that the board can handle dual channel ddr3 1333/1066/800. So RAM with rated speeds of 1866MHz is not going to work becuase it is too fast for that mobo to handle. Get 1333 RAM becuase you will struggle imensly to find ddr3 1066 and 800MHz RAM!

LOL, I came here to check the answers and saw two post of my previous reply, so I thought I double posted the reply and deleted one of it 😛

Then I realized that the second post is your reply 😛

Okay its not the speed here that is the issue, I did research about this before buying and found that the things I should take into account are the type ie ddr3 or 2 then max ram supported, pin count and then not to go below the minimum supported speed that means can use higher speed rams but the MOBO will work at the maximum supported by it.

Thats why I chose this as I could use this ram in future MOBOs.

If my CPU only supports DDR3 1333 mhz RAM can I put in DDR3 1600 MHz?

Okay now the issue here is density.. aaa leave it whatever... i just ordered a new set that the MOBO will support for sure, waiting for it to arrive :sarcastic:

Whatever you want, if I was you though just buy the RAM it supports, it supports 1600 so use that, you will so almost no difference in performance with higher speed RAM so there is no point paying more money for it when it's only going to utalise the 1600 MHz, which is what most people see as the sweet spot
